Titanium is widely used as a material for various chemical reaction vessels and heat exchangers because of its excellent corrosion resistance, but it also has the disadvantage of high cost. This problem is particularly acute when used as a structural component, and an effective solution is to use titanium-steel composite plates. The composite material of titanium and ordinary steel is called titanium composite plate. It has both the corrosion resistance of titanium and the strength of ordinary steel plates as a structural element. Importantly, the cost is also greatly reduced.
General stainless steel composite plate manufacturing methods are: filler metal ingot rolling method, explosion composite method, rolling curling method, overlay welding method, etc. Taking into account the characteristics of titanium, the industry often uses the explosion composite method or rolling curling method, the actual production methods are ① explosion composite method, rolling curling method including ② thick plate rolling method ③ and continuous hot rolling method. Explosive composite method is usually carried out at room temperature, rolling and crimping method is the assembly of plates and heating rolling.
The main points of the explosive composite method: first in the two pieces to be crimped between the metal plate placed at a certain distance, and then placed on top of the appropriate amount of explosives. Detonation from one end of the explosive, the explosion speed of several kilometers per second, the titanium plate can be collided with the angle of the base steel plate. At this collision point, the base steel plate and the titanium plate exhibit fluid behavior due to the very large deformation velocity and ultra-high pressure. The oxide film and the gas adsorption layer on both metal surfaces are eliminated as metal jets and clean surfaces are between the surfaces. The joining is done in an instant and is called cold joining.
The titanium steel composite plate manufactured by this method can continue to be hot rolled to a thickness of 4mm, so it is also called explosive lamination method.
In the thick plate rolling method, the titanium plate (composite material) and steel plate (base material) are first assembled together with a pre-built slab. At this time, a suitable intermediate insert is placed between the titanium plate and the steel, and then electron beam welding is performed under high vacuum. Finally it is heated in a heating furnace and then pressed to the required thickness on a thick plate mill to make a real joint between the titanium plate and the steel plate. Finally, the periphery is cut and divided into 2 plates.
The continuous hot rolling method is basically the same as the thick plate rolling method, except that a steel plate is added between the two plates and arc welding is performed in the atmosphere. Finally, the continuous hot rolling mill continuously rolls to the desired thickness and the coil is taken out and formed. Finally, the periphery is cut and divided into 2 plates.
