According to Vijay Sharma, senior vice president and head of sales and distribution of Jindal Stainless Steel Enterprise Management Services, India, the Group is investing about 2.5 billion rupees in Jajpur's comprehensive stainless steel plant in Orissa State to increase its cold rolling capacity from 900,000 tons to 1.1 million tons per year, and has arranged for related funds. It is expected to be implemented in the last quarter of this fiscal year (as of March 31, 2019) and completed in the next 12 months.
The plant is also considering investing an additional Rs. 450 million to increase smelting capacity from 800,000 tons to 1.1 million tons by the end of fiscal year 2019 (as of March 31, 2020) by removing bottlenecks and improving processes. Once the operation is stable, further expansion will be considered. Orissa has prepared land, infrastructure and other utilities for its substantial expansion. With an investment of Rs. 4-4.5 billion, the stainless steel smelting capacity of the plant will double to 1.6 million tons per year.
At present, Jindal's stainless steel smelting capacity in Haryana and Orissa is about 1.6 million tons per year, and its cold rolling capacity is 900,000 tons, which is flat steel production capacity.
