Titanium clad plates are made of common grade Grade 1 or Grade 2 combined with other metal using the process of explosive welding, hot rolling and bead weld. The process of conversion rolling an explosively bonded composite is particularly characterized by the inclusion of a second intermediate layer of cooper or nickel between the steel and the first intermediate layer. After explosion bonding of this four layered composite, the same may be preheated to for 1 hour at, e.g., 830° C. before hot rolling to a thickness of one fifth that of the composite. Titanium steel clad plates are cost-effective as compared to titanium plate. Therefore, its application has increased in a wide range of industrial machinery and processes.
